Cosmetic Dermatology Q & A

What can I do about fine lines and wrinkles?

Repeated muscle movements like frowning, raising your eyebrows, and squinting can eventually take their toll, leaving behind lines etched in your skin. Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are all neuromodulator injectables that can smooth away lines and wrinkles. Results from these injectable wrinkle treatments typically last about 3-4 months.

What can I do about facial volume loss?

For volume loss, dermal fillers provide a great temporary solution. Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, Perlane®, and Belotero®, can add volume to your mid-face and your lips for up to a year.

Radiesse® is a calcium-based filler that lasts for 12-18 months in the mid-face area, and Sculptra® is a semi-permanent dermal filler made from poly-L-lactic acid that's ideal for replacing lost volume even in larger areas of your face. Sculptra lasts up to two years.

What is the difference between laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment?

Laser and IPL are both light-based treatments that can help with specific skin problems and overall facial rejuvenation. Problems like age spots respond particularly well to IPL, while rough skin texture and acne may respond better to a light laser resurfacing. Your dermatologist at Z-ROC Dermatology can help you address your skin concerns with the right treatment.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling, also called percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is a treatment designed to boost your natural collagen production. Your dermatologist uses a small handheld device with a group of tiny needles to create micro-injuries on the surface of your skin. This prompts your body to make new collagen and elastin, which provide additional structure and volume.

At Z-ROC Dermatology, microneedling treatment incorporates hyaluronic acid and other peptides to help revitalize your skin.

How is hormone replacement therapy (HRT) used in cosmetic dermatology?

HRT does more than just replaces hormones; it can help revitalize your appearance and help you look younger, too. HRT can take several forms, from injections to oral hormones, and more. Your dermatologist will help you choose the right option.
