QWO®: All About the First FDA-Approved Injectable Cellulite Treatment

QWO®: All About the First FDA-Approved Injectable Cellulite Treatment

Whether you’re a skinny woman, of normal weight, or you’re carrying a few extra pounds, cellulite can make a most unwelcome appearance, turning your once smooth skin into a landscape of peaks and valleys. You exercise, you diet, you smooth creams over the area, and the cellulite persists, despite your best efforts.

To fight back, the team here at Z-Roc Dermatology is excited to offer QWO®, the first FDA-approved injectable that tackles moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. As dermatologists, Drs. Matthew Zarraga and Khongruk Wongkittiroch, understand the frustration that comes with cellulite and the lack of effective treatment options. After researching this relatively new treatment, we welcome the great results that QWO provides in reducing this age-old, gender-specific skin condition.

Here’s a look at how QWO has become our best weapon against cellulite.

A few facts about cellulite first

You may have noticed that QWO is designed expressly for women, and that’s for good reason — cellulite affects approximately 85% of women over the age of 20. There are two reasons behind this gender gap, starting with the fact that the connective fibers in your skin are patterned differently than a man’s — straight up and down, as opposed to the more effective criss-cross pattern men enjoy.

What this means is that fat is more likely to push through these collagen fibers and make its way toward the surface of your skin. And, as we mentioned, this condition can develop no matter your body type.

Second, women are more likely to carry extra fat around their reproductive organs, such as their hips and buttocks.

If you combine the extra fat with the structure of your collagen fibers, you get the perfect recipe for cellulite.

How QWO works

QWO contains enzymes, or collageneses, that go straight to the source of the problem — your skin’s structural support. QWO works in three ways:

  1. It release the fibrous bands
  2. It redistributes fat cells
  3. It stimulates the growth of new collagen

Rather than invasive treatments that release the fibrous bands and clear away fat cells, QWO is a simple injectable. All we do is inject up to two treatment areas during each session, and we recommend three visits for optimal results. We’d also like to mention that there’s no downtime afterward, making these treatments easy enough to squeeze into your busy day.

We space these out by three weeks in between each to allow time for QWO to go to work. Most of our patients tolerate these treatments very well, though you may experience some temporary bruising at the injection sites.

As you progress through your QWO treatments, you’ll realize gradual results as your cellulite gives way to smoother skin you’ll be proud to show off again.

If you’re tired of dealing with stubborn cellulite, contact our office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to schedule your QWO treatments.
